It was an absolute privilege to welcome Franny to our celebration event. From the moment he began speaking, he captivated the room with remarkable warmth, dignity and humanity. Open, engaging and effortlessly relatable, our pupils’ attention was rapt throughout

What shone through most clearly was his unwavering dedication to the charitable causes he champions. He spoke with complete sincerity about both the hardships and the privileges of his career, delivering a message that was honest, inspiring and deeply humbling. His willingness to share not only his successes but also the challenges he has faced made his words all the more powerful. Following his presentation, Franny was exceptionally generous with both his time and his good humour. Every pupil who approached him in the hope of an autograph was met with genuine kindness, patience and enthusiasm.

He made each interaction feel personal, ensuring that every young person left feeling valued. He is a wonderful ambassador not only for football, but also for public service and humanitarian work.One particularly memorable aspect of the afternoon was the way Franny embraced the light-hearted attempts at heckling from supporters of rival football clubs. Each playful jibe was met with a smile, a wink and a laugh, demonstrating a level of humility and sportsmanship that extended far beyond the football pitch. It was a masterclass in respect, humour and grace. As a school, we are incredibly grateful that he chose to share his time and his story with us
